Bad Tourist

I was at the local swap meet today and overheard this conversation. I promptly left the store, I didn't want anyone to associate me with this guy, whom we shall call Tourist.

Tourist (T): Where you guys from.
Store owner (SO): Senegal
T: Really? I've always wanted to go there and teach them how to dig wells for water. If they have water, they could grow corn. I'd like to teach them to grow corn so they wouldn't go hungry. If they learned to grow their own food, no one would starve. Of course, they would need to stop having sex.

SO: Awkward laugh, why?
T: Uh....(this is where I left, I SERIOUSLY couldn't believe someone was such an A-Hole. No wonder people hate American tourists.

RIP Merle

May you swim freely with the big fishies. You were a great companion for many years. I enjoyed our trips back and forth from Ellensburg, so many years ago. You handled the move to St. Louis with such grace and surprisingly survived the road-trip back across the country. Your presence in our home will be missed.

I do have a theory on the timeliness of her passing. I bought her at a pet store in Ellensburg with my first real boyfriend in 1996. In the past 13 years, she's seen me through many weird dates/boys/boyfriends and seen me to my last boyfriend, B.

Recreated the scene...

I realized I didn't mention HOW B proposed last week, so I thought I'd share.

Last Saturday we were working around the house (after a quick run to the doughnut shop and Starbucks). He was working outside and I was moving furniture and cleaning. He had been kind of edgy most of the week, so when he came to the back door and told me to put my shoes on and come outside I smarted off and said "PLEASE." He said please and I grabbed a bunch of stuff that needed to go the the shed. We moved the stuff to the shed and he said he had something to show me. Of course, the first thing that came to my head was In Living Color's Fire Marshall Bill. I did my best impersonation and started repeating "Let me show you shomeshing." He didn't laugh, but grabbed my hand and led me down the hill toward the creek. I was afraid he was going to show me a dead critter or transient encampment. He led me to the little landing where the fire pit is. There waiting was a bouquet of stargazer lilies and a 16x20 photo of my oma's church door. All I could say was, Oh My God over and over and over again.

The planning has already started. I hope to have it all figured out before we go to Germany.

Songs to love in Fall

I love fall, I love the colors the cold, the wind and rain. I love hibernating in the in the craft room; or hanging on the couch listening good music, reading a book with some hot tea. I made a short "fall" playlist. I love being morose and being able to blame the weather.

Ugg-tastic

That's how I feel today. Just thought I would share.

We went to an estate sale on Saturday and I found a super cool silver ring with what looks to be 2 clear stones and an aquamarine. I snapped it up...I wonder if I should get it appraised?
